Here is a glimpse of what I had to work with the other day:
I decided to clean out a few specifically cluttered areas of the house. Nothing better to do since nobody will hire me and I have filled out all the applications for all of the jobs that are available in or around Fishers. It at least feels like I have.
Anyways, I cleaned out the “junk drawers” in the kitchen:

And I also cleared out the garage area so that it’s easier to walk back there:

We have acquired a lot of things from my mom since she is moving. Table saw, another kind of saw, air compressor, edger (that we don’t want), and more.
She still has a ton of things at her house we have yet to go pick up, like: dining room table, dining room hutch, china (eek this one makes me nervous!), two living room couches and a dresser and night stand (for guest bedrooms). Anyone have a flatbed trailer? 😉 It’s going to be lots of trips and really nerve-wrecking since I don’t want to scratch or damage the fragile stuff.
I’ve totally been in “cleaning” mode for a few weeks now. I’m not talking scrub-the-toilets or vaccuming clean; I’m talking about unpacking and organizing stuff. That is one of my favorite things to do around the house. Yeah, I know, I’m a nerd (but so is Brad so it works out perfectly).
The other day I packed up the four black storage containers (you know, the fancy schmancy ones that hold flour, sugar, etc on top of the counter). None of them were being used and they took up a ton of counterspace.
Also, I decided to open and unpack the little kitchen spice kit I received, I think, for our wedding. I love using spices. I’ve always been the type to just buy it and be happy. I probably still have some spices that have followed me through college .. yikes!
I thought I wouldn’t use this package as I was opening it, but it was just so darn cute! I am trying it and it is growing like weeds on my kitchen table (that’s the best place for sunlight anywhere near my kitchen). The picture above is after only 3 days!! The picture below was after 5-6 days or so. These little guys grow fast!!!

From left to right: Basil, Thyme, and Sage (I think)

Seems like these two are growing and the other one is taking its sweet time. Oh well.
Also, my next few projects are the “junk drawers” in the kitchen (I know we all have those .. unfortunately) and the garage. Remember the original garage storage? Looks like this now:
Yeah, you can’t even walk back there. And Brad wants to buy a newer, bigger boat?! Not right now, sir.
Finally we got some storage in our laundry room! We have what I would call a “normal” washer and dryer although I think front loaders are becoming more frequent than these nowadays. We are technically completely done in here except that we don’t like that they sit so far away from the wall (like a foot). This is because of the washer’s plastic bin it has to sit inside of is too big. Brad’s dad bought it for us and I guess Brad didn’t communicate the measurements.
“They are all the same size. It doesn’t matter” he said. Not true, honey.
Oh well, at least we can do laundry even if I have to stand on my 5’10” tippy toes to reach inside the brand-new cabinets on the back wall.
Those cabinets are beautiful though, right!? I absolutely love them! We measured several front loading washer/dryer combos at the hardware store and the tallest was 53.75 inches (including the bottom drawers) so we made these cabinets tall enough to fit any washer/dryer combo in case we upgrade or anyone moves in with a set so they don’t have to move the cabinets. I love being so anal about these things and thinking ahead.
Plus we might NEED a new washer if this one doesn’t stop ripping our clothes and making crazy noises. It is still under warranty since it’s only two years old though. I just need to get off my lazy behind and call HHGregg to come fix it!
When we bought our house, there was one spare bedroom that actually had the proper supports still in place and the closet-maid attached. The rest of the bedrooms looked like this:
Most even had huge holes and gauges in the walls from where they just ripped everything out of the walls. Would it not have been easier to use a drill and NOT make more work for me and Brad?
Oh well that is all behind us and the first thing I did when we moved in was patch these holes up! Well they have sat empty for a while now and it’s almost our one-month anniversary here and we desperately need storage. Brad hates that the garage looks the way it does.
By the way, we did finally get rid of the washer that was left here. A guy from work came and picked it up and I think it’s the happiest I have seen Brad in a very long time! See, we didn’t know if it worked or not. It was only 7 years old but we said Free To Anyone Who Will Take It!!
So back to the closet situation, kinda. Brad got a really nice Craftsman 3-piece tool chest for Christmas from my mom. Well, it is still in boxes in the garage and I’m sure he is just dying to get it together. So we needed somewhere to put all that junk in the garage. It’s mostly paint we are done using and holiday decorations. Enter the closet organization cubes we found at Lowe’s!!
They are a beauty right!? I absolutely love them and it is a perfect place for our games, extra stuff (cords, remotes, etc) and we even had enough room for two rows of closet maids in case we happen to have triplets (I will kill Brad .. make note of that) and need to use this room as a bedroom for whatever reason.
There it is filled with stuff. Yeah that is our Wii Drum Set and you can’t see it but our two guitars are just off to the right of that.
Next organizing step is to put the hanging clippy things (not sure what to call them) on the wall of the garage so he can hang the garden tools like the rake, pooper scooper, shovel, etc. We have it, it just needs hung up. He also has 4 shelves (and will probably need more room to expand) of fishing rod racks that hang nicely on the garage wall too. I think once the chest gets put together, those two items get hung and it warms up and I can put our porch furniture out again then it will be MUCH more roomy in there.
